Movie 1: The Social Reckoning

This is more or less a sequel to the 2010 movie The Social Network. It follows and chronicles a 2021 Facebook leak by a whistleblower to a Wall Street Journal reporter. We found the acting, writing and Aaron Sorkin’s directing very solid and entertaining. In theaters now and expected to be on Prime Video in November and Netflix in February 2027. We were very fortunate to see this movie in the beautiful art deco and art nouveau palace Pathe Tuschinski in Amsterdam.

Movie 2: Sense and Sensibility

This is yet another beautifully set romantic drama based on Jane Austen’s 1811 novel. A family of sisters faces financial ruin as they all look for love and marriage. The sets, costumes, scenery and people are all beautiful. Yet somehow it feels slow and shallow. We saw this movie in a crowded theater in Paris where it was obvious many younger viewers were really enjoying it.

Movie 3: The Diplomat Season 4

Season 4 of this Netflix series does not disappoint. With the same wonderful cast of characters, this season highlights the relationships of the US Ambassador to the Court of Saint James with her husband the Vice President and the President, played brilliantly by Allison Janney. The twists and turns are realistic and fascinating to watch unfold. We binged watched the 8 episodes in one day. The parallels from what we were watching and today’s Washington reality were simply breathtaking.
